Paseo Del Rio Trail: Convenient and Easy

Paseo Del Rio Trail is good for a family with littles looking to take an easy amble or as a way to link multiple trails together. 1 mile in length (one way) and flat as my sister’s chest, this trail is easy-peasy lemon squeezy as it winds along (no I’m not making this name up) the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River amidst pleasant groves of trees.

You can park at Soapberry day use area if doing this trail as a solo out and back.

While this isn’t a trail I would recommend doing for the sake of itself, it helps complete a nice loop between the Lighthouse, Givens, Spicer, and Lowry Trails. The trail does cross the tributary once so be prepared to potentially get wet feet if the stream is too wide to hop across. The path is typically wide enough for two people to walk side by side comfortably and is hard packed dirt underfoot.

The Dugout

A point of interest along the trail is a replica of a dugout that Charles Goodnight, one of the people credited with helping to save Texas’s bison, constructed in 1876. I was pleasantly surprised that the dugout was unlocked and I was able to wander in and ponder the life of a 19th century cowboy.

Too Long: Didn’t Read;

There really isn’t much to say about this trail. I’d recommend using it to create loops within the parks or for walking your kids. For those purposes, would recommend.

For other purposes, I would not recommend. That’s probably implied, but one can’t be too careful with you internet types.

I incorporated Paseo Del Rio trail into this loop with the Lighthouse Trail and Givens, Spicer, and Lowry Trail.
